เมื่อวันที่ 22 มกราคม 2569 นายบัญชา ยืนยงจงเจริญ รองอธิบดีกรมการกงสุล ในฐานะรองประธานคณะทำงานจัดการเลือกตั้งสมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎรและออกเสียงประชามตินอกราชอาณาจักร และคณะกรมการกงสุล ได้ร่วมคณะผู้แทนคณะกรรมการการเลือกตั้ง นำโดย นายอนันต์ สุวรรณรัตน์ คณะกรรมการการเลือกตั้ง ในการตรวจติดตามการจัดตั้งหน่วยเลือกตั้งเคลื่อนที่ของสถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ ที่โรงแรม Metro Hotel Marlow Sydney
คณะร่วมกิจกรรมการจัดฝึกอบรมแก่คณะกรรมการจัดการเลือกตั้งและลงประชามตินอกราชอาณาจักร โดยมี นายนฤชัย นินนาท กงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ กล่าวต้อนรับและให้ข้อมูลภาพรวมการจัดการเลือกตั้งของสถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ และในช่วงค่ำของวันเดียวกัน กงสุลใหญ่ฯ ได้เลี้ยงอาหารค่ำเพื่อเป็นเกียรติแก่นายอนันต์ สุวรรณรัตน์ กรรมการ กกต. และรองอธิบดีบัญชาฯ พร้อมคณะที่ทำเนียบกงสุลใหญ่ฯ
ในปี 2569 นี้ มีผู้ลงทะเบียนขอใช้สิทธิเลือกตั้งสมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎรนอกราชอาณาจักร จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 139,535 คน และออกเสียงประชามตินอกราชอาณาจักร จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 95,666 คน
ชุมชนไทยในออสเตรเลียนับเป็นชุมชนไทยในต่างประเทศที่ใหญ่เป็นอันดับ 4 รองจากสหรัฐอเมริกา เกาหลีใต้ และมาเลเซีย โดยมีคนไทยพำนักประมาณ 114,280 คน และออสเตรเลียเป็นประเทศที่มีผู้ลงทะเบียนขอใช้สิทธิเลือกตั้งและออกเสียงประชามตินอกราชอาณาจักรสูงสุด โดยมีผู้ลงทะเบียนขอใช้สิทธิเลือกตั้งนอกราชอาณาจักร จำนวน 26,449 คน เพิ่มขึ้นกว่า 28.45% เมื่อเทียบกับจำนวนผู้ลงทะเบียนขอใช้สิทธิเลือกตั้งในปี 2566 และมีผู้ลงทะเบียนออกเสียงประชามตินอกราชอาณาจักร จำนวน 19,784 คน ทั้งนี้ จำนวนผู้ลงทะเบียนใช้สิทธิที่เพิ่มมากขึ้นส่วนหนึ่งสืบเนื่องจาก กกต. ได้ปรับกฎระเบียบให้สามารถใช้บัตรประชาชนและหนังสือเดินทางที่หมดอายุแล้ว เพื่อลงทะเบียนขอใช้สิทธิเลือกตั้งนอกราชอาณาจักรได้เป็นครั้งแรก และสถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ สถานกงสุลใหญ่ฯ หลายแห่งเปิดช่องทางอำนวยความสะดวกให้คนไทยในต่างประเทศใช้สิทธิได้หลากหลายวิธีขึ้น
ในปี 2569 นี้ สถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงแคนเบอร์รา ได้จัดให้มีการเลือกตั้งในรูปแบบไปรษณีย์ โดยมีผู้ลงทะเบียนขอใช้สิทธิ จำนวน 11,295 คน เพิ่มขึ้นจากในปี 2566 ร้อยละ 40.72 ในขณะที่สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ ได้จัดการเลือกตั้งทั้งในรูปแบบหน่วยเลือกตั้งเคลื่อนที่ (Mobile Unit) และแบบไปรษณีย์ โดยมีผู้ลงทะเบียนขอใช้สิทธิ จำนวน 15,154 คน เพิ่มขึ้นร้อยละ 20.08

The Department of Consular Affairs, the Election Commission of Thailand, supports the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney in organizing overseas elections and a referendum.
On 22 January 2026, Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs and Vice Chairperson of the Working Group on Overseas General Elections and Referendums, together with his delegation, joined the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT), led by Election Commissioner Mr. Anan Suwannarat, to monitor the arrangement of a mobile election unit by the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney at the Metro Hotel Marlow Sydney.
The delegation arranged a training session for volunteers of the Overseas Election and Referendum Management Committees. Mr. Naruchai Ninnad, Consul-General in Sydney, delivered welcoming remarks and provided an overview of the election arrangements. Later that evening, the Consul-General hosted a dinner in honor of Mr. Anan Suwannarat, DDG Bancha and the delegations at the Consul-General’s Residence.
In 2026, a total of 139,535 voters registered for overseas voting for Members of the House of Representatives, while 95,666 voters registered to participate in the overseas referendum.
The Thai community in Australia is the fourth-largest Thai community abroad—following the United States, South Korea, and Malaysia—with approximately 114,280 Thai nationals residing in the country. Australia also has the highest number of registrants for overseas voting and referendum participation: 26,449 registrants for overseas parliamentary elections (an increase of more than 28.45% compared to 2023) and 19,784 registrants for the overseas referendum. The increase in registration numbers is partly due to the ECT’s revision of regulations, which, for the first time, allows the use of expired national ID cards and passports to register for overseas voting. Moreover, Royal Thai Embassies and Consulates-General across the globe are offering a variety of voting channels to facilitate Thai voters in this election.
In 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra organized voting by postal ballot for 11,295 registered voters, representing a 40.72% increase from 2023. Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney organized voting through both mobile election units and postal voting for 15,154 registered voters, an increase of 20.08%.
