เมื่อวันที่ 23 มกราคม 2569 นายบัญชา ยืนยงจงเจริญ รองอธิบดีกรมการกงสุล ในฐานะรองประธานคณะทำงานจัดการเลือกตั้งสมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎรและออกเสียงประชามตินอกราชอาณาจักรร่วมกับนายอนันต์ สุวรรณรัตน์ กรรมการการเลือกตั้งร่วมติดตามการใช้สิทธิเลือกตั้งและออกเสียงประชามตินอกราชอาณาจักรของคนไทยในซิดนีย์ ณ หน่วยเลือกตั้งเคลื่อนที่โรงแรม Metro Hotel Marlow Sydney
บรรยากาศการเปิดหน่วยเลือกตั้งในวันแรกเป็นไปอย่างคึกคัก ในช่วงเช้ามีผู้มาใช้สิทธิฯ เป็นจำนวนมากที่เตรียมพร้อมในการใช้สิทธิเป็นอย่างดี ทั้งนี้ สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ได้จัดการเลือกตั้งอย่างรอบคอบรัดกุม มีอาสาสมัครช่วยจ่ายบัตรฯ จำนวน 10 ชุด พร้อมรองรับผู้มาใช้สิทธิได้วันละกว่า 2,000 คน ตลอดระยะเวลา 4 วัน ของการเปิดหน่วยเลือกตั้งเคลื่อนที่ที่ไทยทาวน์
ในวันเดียวกัน รองอธิบดีบัญชาฯ และคณะ กกต. ได้ประชุมหารือร่วมกับ นายนฤชัย นินนาท กงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ เพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนข้อคิดเห็นและรับทราบผลการจัดการเลือกตั้งและออกเสียงประชามตินอกราชอาณาจักร โดยพบว่าผลการดำเนินการในภาพรวมเป็นไปด้วยความเรียบร้อย แม้ว่าจะพบข้อท้าทายอยู่บ้าง ซึ่งกรมการกงสุล สถานกงสุลใหญ่ฯ และ กกต. ได้ประสานงานอย่างใกล้ชิด เพื่อร่วมกันหาแนวทางจัดการ
ภายหลังปิดคูหาลงคะแนนในวันแรก พบว่ามียอดผู้มาใช้สิทธิลงคะแนนเลือกตั้ง 1,480 คน และยอดผู้มาออกเสียงประชามติ 1,149 คน ทั้งนี้ สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครซิดนีย์ จะเปิดให้ชาวไทยใช้สิทธิฯ ต่อไปที่โรงแรม Metro Hotel Marlow Sydney ถึงวันที่ 26 มกราคม 2569 ตั้งแต่เวลา 09.00 – 17.00 น. (ตามเวลาท้องถิ่น)

The Department of Consular Affairs and Election Commission of Thailand Support the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney in Holding the First Day of Overseas Voting in Thai Town
On 23 January 2026, Mr. Bancha Yuenyongchongcharoen, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs and Vice Chairperson of the Working Group on Overseas General Elections and Referendums, joined Mr. Anan Suwannarat, Election Commissioner, to monitor the overseas voting and referendum process for Thai nationals in New South Wales, Australia, at the Metro Hotel Marlow Sydney.
The first day of the opening of the mobile election unit was vibrant and energetic, a large number of voters were in line waiting for the opening hour of the unit since early morning. Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney has implemented thorough arrangements by staffing 10 designated service stations to facilitate voters. As a result, the mobile election unit is very well equipped to accommodate over 2,000 voters per day throughout the four-day operation in Thai Town.
On the same day, DDG Bancha and the ECT delegation held a consultative meeting with Mr. Naruchai Ninnad, Consul-General in Sydney, to exchange views and review the preparations for this overseas election and referendum. The overall operations were found to be proceeding smoothly, despite some minor challenges. The Department of Consular Affairs, the Consulate-General, and the ECT are working in close coordination to ensure appropriate solutions are implemented.
Following the close of the polls on the first day, the turnout recorded 1,480 voters for the general election and 1,149 for the national referendum. The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Sydney will continue to provide voting services at the Metro Hotel Marlow Sydney until 26 January 2026, from 09:00 to 17:00 (local time).
