On 26 October 2026, Ms. Napamas Panyatrong, Chief of Chiang Mai Passport Office, participated in a meeting to discuss ways in driving forward the development of a nomad-friendly district around the San Pa Khoi - Wat Ket neighbourhood at the Chiang Mai Provincial Hall. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Boonlue Thamtharanurak, Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai, and in attendance were Mr. Itthirat Sinarak, Director of the Chiang Mai Provincial Office of Tourism and Sports, the Working Committee and relevant network partners.
The meeting followed up and summarised past operations, as well as analysed accomplishments, each sector’s strengths, issues to be built upon, and implementation obstacles. This was aimed to determine improvement and development directions in area management to be more inclusive and efficient, in terms of digital infrastructure, co-working spaces, facilities, safety, as well as activities and privileges that would correspond with digital nomads’ lifestyles from around the world. The advancement of a nomad-friendly district is an important milestone to elevate Chiang Mai province’s potential in becoming a popular destination globally. This would also attract more quality tourists who stay long-term and have high purchasing power, which would sustainably lead to economic boost and income distribution to community entrepreneurs and the local service sector.
