เมื่อวันที่ 22 กุมภาพันธ์ 2567 นายรุจ ธรรมมงคล อธิบดีกรมการกงสุล ได้เป็นประธานร่วมกับนายยูน ชูซ็อก อธิบดีกรมการกงสุลและความปลอดภัยสาธารณรัฐเกาหลี (เกาหลีใต้) ในการประชุมหารือด้านการกงสุลระหว่างสาธารณรัฐเกาหลี -ไทย ครั้งที่ 6 (The 6th Republic of Korea - Thailand Consular Consultations) ณ กรุงโซล สาธารณรัฐเกาหลี โดยมีผู้แทนจากทั้งกระทรวงการต่างประเทศของไทยและเกาหลีใต้ ผู้แทนสถานเอกอัครราชทูตของทั้งสองประเทศ และผู้แทนหน่วยงานอื่นๆ ของเกาหลีใต้ ได้แก่ กระทรวงยุติธรรม สำนักงานตำรวจแห่งชาติ เข้าร่วมการประชุมด้วย
การประชุมครั้งนี้เป็นโอกาสในการหารือเพื่อส่งเสริมความร่วมมือด้านการกงสุลของไทยและเกาหลีใต้ในหลายหัวข้อ อาทิ การตรวจคนเข้าเมือง การคุ้มครองดูแลคนชาติทั้งสอง การหรือเกี่ยวกับระบบ Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) ความร่วมมือด้านแรงงาน การแก้ไขปัญหายาเสพติด ฝ่ายไทยรับทราบแผนการปรับปรุงระบบ ETA ของเกาหลีใต้ที่จะอำนวยความสะดวกให้แก่นักเดินทางไทยที่สนามบินอินชอนมากขึ้น รวมถึงทั้งสองฝ่ายเห็นพ้องที่จะส่งเสริมความปลอดภัยให้กับนักท่องเที่ยวไทยและเกาหลี ที้งนี้ ไทยจะเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการประชุมหารือด้านกงสุลไทย-สาธารณรัฐเกาหลี ครั้งต่อไปในช่วงต้นปี 2568
On 22 February 2024, Mr. Rooge Thammongkol, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs, co-chaired the 6th Republic of Korea-Thailand Consular Consultations with Mr. Yoon Chusok, Director-General for Consular Affairs and Safety of RoK. The meeting was held in Seoul and well attended by representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs (TH and RoK), Ministry of Labour (TH), Ministry of Justice (RoK), Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, RoK Embassy in Bangkok, Korean National Police, and Supreme Prosecutors’ Office (RoK). Various consular issues such as immigration, protection of overseas nationals were discussed at the meeting, including Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), addressing the issue of Thai overstayers, promotion of labour cooperation, tackling drug problems. The Thai side acknowledged the Korean side’s plan to upgrade its K-ETA system to facilitate Thai travelers arriving at Incheon Airport. Both sides also agreed to promote safety for Thai and Korean tourists, and stand ready to cooperate with each other on bilateral extradition. The next TH-RoK Consular Consultations will be held in Thailand early next year.
